So, I didn’t get one of these up last week and this one is going up late today (I started this last night and doubt it’ll go up before this evening. Sigh). But better late than never, right?
Recipe of the Week
If you follow me on Instagram stories, you probably have heard me talk upwards of 800 times about my sourdough starter. Well, that’s because it’s SO FUN and like having another pet that makes great bread for you.
Is yeast a pet? No, but it is slightly reminiscent of sea monkeys of the late 1980s. You have to feed it and you know it’s responding to your TLC when it bubbles.
ANYWAY, The Clever Carrot has the best sourdough recipe in my opinion and I’m actually “priming” my starter now to make another loaf tomorrow.
Homemade bread + homegrown tomatoes + homegrown basil + EVOO + sea salt= bruschetta perfection
Currently Drinking
Too much. One thing I love/hate about summer is the amount of time outside with a cold one. The caloric implication of that, though, is starting to rear its ugly head.
Current favorite? Hot Blonde from Catawba Island Brewing Company. It has a spicy finish which makes it so fun.
Currently Watching
Not a darn thing! I literally have not turned on the TV in over two weeks. Last week was a test week (I work in education) AND I bought a condo soooo TV was not a high priority at ALL.
Currently Reading
Um. Y’all. Have you read this?! It’s is SO good. You know I’m all about the self-improvement/motivation genre, and this is one of the best! “Everything is Figureoutable” is going to become my new genre and it should be yours too. So good!
Currently Listening
At the moment? Cannoli is growling which means he wants yet another dinner (ain’t happening).
I listened to the first part of The Piketon Massacre (new episodes are still dropping) on my way home from Ohio and ho-ly smokes. It’s nuts. As an Ohio native, I was surprised to not have even heard about the crime until this and the story is.. well.. listen for yourself. So many thoughts.
One thing I will say, though, is that the narrators are more than a little disappointing so far. I might not have grown up as a hillbilly but there are plenty in Ohio who did. I know they have their own subculture and the narrators make no attempt (at least as far as I could tell) to understand that. It does take away from the story a bit, but it is DEFINITELY worth a listen.
This Week’s Adventures
Well, I FINALLY did it… I bought a lake condo on Lake Erie and I’m elated! I spent a good chunk of time in Ohio leading up to the closing and loved spending time with family. My friend who lives in Phoenix came to visit (Tina, we failed to get a picture together AGAIN) so we spent time up at the lake and around Cleveland. It was lovely.
I did some thrifting to look for condo stuff (not much luck)…
We went to Lakeside, which is one of my favorite places in the whole wide world…
And I picked out a couch and bed for the condo.
I did some fall dreaming because of the buffalo check pumpkins I bought at Marilyns Two in Lakeside (and the glitter pumpkins I got at the Dollar Tree!)
And ventured to Hobby Lobby for some spray paint and *may* have gotten a little side tracked…
Jim came to Ohio toward the end of my trip and we went to Twin Oast and Gideon Owen, both in Catawba and both FANTASTIC. I’ll do a whole blog post on these but check out these photos for now!
Back here in the DMV, Jim and I took Frickle to the dog happy hour at Caboose Brewing Company in Fairfax and it was fantastic. We unfortunately missed the memo that the dog happy hour ended at 6 (we got there at 7), but were still able to hang out and have fun. The patio is always dog friendly. I didn’t get a picture of my beer (mainly because beer pretty much all looks the same…) but it was the Cucumber Mojito Sour. Sounds weird, but I loved it.
Current Hobbies
ALL things condo related. I painted these and stupidly did not take an “after” photo.. Soooo you’re going to have to wait until next week’s journal.
Did a few Cricut projects for funsies.
And made more sourdough…
One of my tomato plants had gotten HUGE and needs to be laid up against the wall in order to stay up.
Oh, aaaaand this beauty arrived and I’m 2 for 2 with daily rides. My name is basicbrittblog if you want to be my Peloton friend! Did anyone else have a VERY hard time learning how to “clip in” and especially “clip out?” Because I briefly considered having to drag my bike over to my phone to call for help… I escaped. Don’t worry.
Other Things to Note
Forgot to mention that I went to the gun show…
Teehee. Couldn’t help myself.
Cannoli got a haircut (and apparently made some new friends) and I HIGHLY recommend his groomer, Furbabies of Bethesda.
All for this week! Happy Wednesday!
