Part of me kind of hates that I keep writing about “social distancing” and Covid-19 themed things, but since it’s pretty much what everyone is talking about these days, it’s kind of unavoidable. If you’re sick of hearing about it, I’m sorry. Know that my writing about it is merely to keep peoples’ spirits up and to give you some things to do while we’re safe at home.
I mentioned last week that things were starting to get hard for me. I miss so many people, I miss going to work, and I miss my routine. Now that I’m through my little dark night of sorts (it was short-lived, thank goodness), I’m really trying to focus on doing all the things that I used to say I didn’t have time for. A big one for me is actual reading. I say actual reading because you know I love me some audiobooks. I devour them on my commute to work, on walks or just when I’m doing the dishes. Full disclosure- when I do book posts (here, here and here are my more recent ones), it’s usually from books I’ve listened to because I rarely sit and actually read. So, when I asked my friends (some of whom were in my games post last week) what their all-time favorites were, I was shocked to learn that I haven’t read a single one of them! I have some work to do! My friends are brilliant, amazing people with impeccable taste, so I would trust their recommendations whole-heartedly.
My all-time favorite book? Hands-down To Kill a Mockingbird. If you’ve never read it or haven’t in a while, allow this to be my plea to you: READ IT. It’s considered a classic for a reason and the narrator, Scout Finch will steal your heart with her sweet southern innocence. Not only is it wildly entertaining, it is also a necessary glimpse in the injustices of the Jim Crow-era south. It’s the best and a must read for every American.
Enough from me because my friends have some great ideas too and I bet you do as well. If you have something to add to the list, please please please do in the comments! I’m always on the prowl for great books and would love to know your all-time favorite!
