It’s been a long time since I’ve cared about the outcome of the Super Bowl. Even though I’m a Browns fan, I’ve not-so-secretly supported Joe Burrow’s career. He transferred from Ohio State (which I’m also a fan of) to LSU and won LSU a long-awaited championship. I should hate him, but I can’t help but think he’s great. Plus, he grew up as a Bengals fan and was drafted by them right out of college… I just love everything about this story.
“Football food” is perhaps my favorite food genre. What is better than watching one of America’s greatest pastimes while eating some delicious goodness? Nothing.
Today I thought I’d share some of my favorite football foot finds in the hope that it inspires your Super Bowl spread. Enjoy!
Dips
Skyline Dip: This is actually a Cincinnati staple, so make sure you make it if you’re (like me) rooting for the Bengals! AND it’s only three ingredients! Serve these with Fritos. Not Tostitos. Not generic tortilla chips. Fritos. It must be Fritos.
Buffalo Chicken Dip: The crowd pleaser of all crowd pleasers… Yum. I always serve mine with celery in addition to tortilla chips or Fritos. Note: this recipe is *pretty close* to the one I use except I NEVER use canned chicken. Ew. I boil or grill (grilled is better) the chicken. I also use Ken’s Steakhouse Chunky Bleu Cheese dressing in lieu of the ranch.. Otherwise it’s the same.
Popper Dip: Are you noticing a bit of a creamy theme? Too bad ;). Note–I actually really like popper dip with Triscuit crackers.
Artichoke Dip: I started making this waaay back when Pinterest was new and it’s still a go-to for me.
Can’t make up your mind as to which dip to make? Have no fear. I love THIS idea.
Finger Foods
Note: You can make any of the dips “finger foods” by rolling them (cold) in to tortillas and making pinwheels; stuffing them into bread dough and baking or making phyllo dough “cupcakes” with them.
Popper Pigs in a Blanket: Jazz up your regular pigs in a blanket… My mouth is watering just thinking about these.
Pizza logs: These (pictured above) are a Buffalo, NY staple.. and they’re insanely delicious. Note: the recipe calls for egg roll wrappers, but I actually use Goya empanada disks and I make them in my air fryer. You’re welcome.
Taco Sticks: Yum. Just yum.
Muffaletta Pinwheels: Who doesn’t love a good muffaletta sandwich? These are a great spin on them… Pun intended.
Spinach Balls: I’ve been making these for YEARS and they’re always a hit.
BBQ Meatballs: Get the Trader Joe’s meatballs for this. You won’t be sorry.
Turkey Sliders: I need to do a post on these but basically you get: Hawaiian rolls + turkey + sharp cheddar or American cheese. Make sandwiches and add them to a baking pan. Then melt a stick of butter in a mug and add a lot of brown mustard (like 4 tablespoons if you like mustard a lot like I do). Add either dried minced onions or everything seasoning to the butter mixture. Brush or pour on top of the sandwiches. Bake at 305 until the cheese is melted and the bread is slightly toasted.
Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms: My friend made these for a little recipe exchange I hosted years ago.. And I still dream about them. They’re SO good. Now if only the people in my life liked mushrooms as much as I do…
Desserts
Sugar Cookies: I plan on making these in football and tiger shape… Obvi.
Brown butter cookies: I’ve made these more times than I can count and they’re still my favorite.
Peanut Butter Brownies: For as good as I am at making cookies, I suck at making brownies.. But these are the exception. Give me anything peanut butter and chocolate and I’m set for life.
I hope this inspires a delicious spread on your Super Bowl Sunday. Go Bengals!
