Perhaps one of my favorite things about living in DC (along with Restaurant Week, of course) is Gala Season! Not that there’s anything wrong with this but most of the people I grew up with in Ohio have only worn formal gowns to prom and as bridesmaids in weddings. I personally love dressing up, meeting fun new people and contributing to great causes.
And now, they’re back in full swing! It was SO sad that Covid shut the galas down for so long. I’m sure it cost these charities a ton of money so hopefully they can make it up with these events being back with vengeance.
Now that we’re in the throws of Gala Season, I thought I’d share some that I’ve attended and invite you to do the same!
Catholic Coalition for Special Education
One of my life’s passions is to make Catholic education accessible to all students. While I understand why some schools reject the idea, I believe more can do it with just a little bit of extra work. CCSE funds salaries for SpEd teachers, provides professional development opportunities and is altogether a GREAT cause.
Sweethearts and Patriots
This was my first year attending Sweethearts and Patriots and it was a blast! It’s hosted by the Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution and always benefits some cause for veterans.
Brewer’s Ball
Words cannot express how fun I always have at this event, which benefits the CF Foundation. Cystic Fibrosis is a cause near and dear to my heart; my dad lost five siblings to the disease. Since COVID, the event is outdoors and at the Wharf and is one of the more affordable galas out there. If you’re a beer drinker, this is a MUST attend event.
My School’s Garden Party
Here in the DC area, it’s pretty much required for private schools to have some sort of fundraising gala and they’re usually a ton of fun! If you have a friend whose alma mater is nearby or is a parent of a private school student, invite yourself to their gala, bid on the silent auction items and have a blast. They always are!
Even with galas being a ton of fun, they also raise a lot of money for worth causes. Will you check one out this year?
