For as much as I would have adored a snow day this year, the weather in DC has been pretty amazing this winter. As I was driving home from work today, I noticed that some trees are starting to blossom… It’s FEBRUARY. I’m scheduled to run the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler on April 2, and I have a feeling the trees will no longer be blossoming at that point; they’ll already be leafy.
It felt a little strange to have such a balmy day last Sunday, when my stud muffin and I spent the day outside, walking several miles on the C&O Canal Towpath. I’d been to the area many times, but usually do a hike on the Billgoat Trail, which is quite challenging. Unfortunately, I’ve had some back problems lately (because apparently I’m 90), and thought it would be a better idea to play it safe and stay on flat ground.
Anyway, it was a pretty much perfect day, and I can’t wait to get back on a more regular basis. The towpath is perfect for runners, bikers, or walkers and is absolutely gorgeous. A little insider tip: set your GPS to Old Angler’s Inn, and park in the lot across the street.. This way, you don’t have to pay to get in :).
It’s hard to believe a place this gorgeous and serene is so close to DC… It’s only about a 20 minute drive from Georgetown, for example, as long as there’s no traffic! Get ready for a photo overload, and have a GREAT weekend!
