Four Frederick Breweries To Check Out This Weekend

I’m telling you, friends, that Frederick is perhaps the best kept secret in the DMV.. Ok, it’s not technically in the DMV (it’s about 45 minutes north of DC) but it is a quick jaunt from MoCo and not a terrible drive from other parts of the DC area. The people there are way less high-strung, the restaurant prices don’t make you want to gag AND you can go out in jeans and not feel like a bum… I just love it.

A few weeks ago Jim and I spontaneously met up with some friends who were at Attaboy Brewery and I immediately got hooked. Having gone to Frederick from time-to-time, I never knew there was a great little area on the outskirts of downtown with four FABULOUS breweries. If you’d looking for a place to get away from DC this weekend, look no further.

All four of these breweries are an easy (and I mean easy–like 3 minutes, tops) walk from one another. Join me as I take you along! If you go on a weekend, park at the McCutcheon’s Apple Store and cross the creek. That’s where you’ll find Idiom and Steinhardt…

Idiom Brewery

Idiom’s tasting room is huge and I love it.. The staff is super Covid-compliant and it was as spic and span as it gets. There is also an outdoor area with heaters if that’s more your speed AND the whole place (indoor and outdoor) is dog friendly! We didn’t bring the boys but just might some day. I had their “What’s the Scoop” beer and rated it a solid 4/5 on Untappt. Jim had the “Liquid Lunch” (3.5/5); “Raise Your Eyebrow” (3.5/5) and “Limelight” (3.5/5).

Steinhardt Brewing

Next door is the cozy Steinhardt Brewing where they still (surprisingly) have an Oktoberfest beer on tap and I looooved it.

Smoketown Brewery

Back across the creek is one of Smoketown’s two taphouses (the other is in Brunswick, MD and is fabulous). I had the Over Easy (4/5) and the Patsy (3.5/5). Fun fact, Smoketown has trivia on Tuesday evenings and it’s very fun.

Attaboy Brewery

Two words: Mermaid Blood. Such a unique and fun beer.. Careful, though.. It’s very potent!
