Like any good millennial, I’m in to podcasts. If you’re not a millennial (my website analytics tell me that I’m quite popular with the over-60 crowd. Hi, Mom and Dad!) and don’t know what a podcast is, it’s basically on-demand (think Netflix) talk radio.

Because I have a roughly hour commute two days per week, it’s nice to use that time wisely to learn a few new things. Rare are the days that I’m listening to music in the car. While I have nothing against music, I feel as though that’s perhaps a waste of time.

If you feel like you’re slogging with your financial goals, look no further. Listen to these every week and you’ll be well on your way to financial motivation.

How I Built This

While not technically a financial podcast, HIBT tells the stories of some of the most well-known brands in America and how they came to be. From listening to this podcast, I have learned that many brands that are household names should NEVER have survived and because of grit, hand word, great investors dumb luck and humility, they did! I find this helpful because not only am I (side) business owner, but I also work for a startup. Every so often I wonder if I’m wasting my time and HBIT always puts things in perspective.. ALL companies have been through the ringer.

Dave Ramsey

To me, this is the end-all, be-all of all financial podcasts. While I don’t think that Dave Ramsey’s financial tips are necessarily for everyone, his formula is simple, even if it’s terribly difficult to follow. For someone with zero knowledge of how finances work, his tips are a great place to start getting a financial footing and the real-life callers with real-life questions are often very relatable. This podcast is a fantastic use of your time.

Secrets of Wealthy Women

While there have been a few podcast guests on this show that made me want to throw my phone out the window because of their political jabs (PSA- NOT ALL WOMEN ARE LIBERAL), Secrets of Wealthy Women overall is fantastic. More than anything, the show hostess, Veronica Dagher just interviews these women, asking things about their businesses and financial habits. I especially liked one tip (from a multi-millionaire, mind you) that said that, when buying designer goods, always mix in pieces from Target. Whaaat? So many people assume that super wealthy people don’t pinch pennies and constantly spend frivolously and that’s simply not true.

She Did It Her Way

Sigh, I love this one and I feel like hostess, Amanda Boleyn, and I are long-lost pals. It doesn’t hurt that she’s a fellow ambitious midwesterner. Anyway, I digress. She Did It Her Way is also an interview-based podcast and the guests are typically women who own small-ish businesses. I put the “ish” on there because, for example, she interviewed the founder of Daily Harvest a while back when it was kind of, sort of a thing. Now it’s fairly huge.

Anyway, the whole premise is showing women that they can ditch their 9-5s and work for themselves by scaling their side hustles. I’m not doing this justice at all. It’s amazing. Check it out, K?

Business Boutique

Christy Wright is another very relatable, very motivating podcast hostess. Business Boutique is under Dave Ramey’s (many) brands and it coaches you on how to start a business by doing what you love. It definitely has a Christian spin, which I love, because ultimately nothing will happen if it’s not supposed to and us Christian folk chalk “not supposed to” as God’ will.
