Sweet Heat Chicken Bowls

[wysija_form id=”1″]   Is anybody else feeling like summer is more hectic than the school year sometimes?  My gosh, for as much as I love the chill nature of summer, I feel like I’ve been running around like a mad woman. Which is why, blog babes, I came up with this delicious and not-bad-for-you recipe.  My boyfriend is a big fan of the Sweet Fire Chicken at Panda Express, so…

Five Lies About Paying off Debt

[wysija_form id=”1″] Alright, blog babes, it’s time to get real here.  I, Britt, am in debt.  OK, it’s nothing major, and it’s completely self-inflicted, but I am (in a tiny way) in debt.  The hot water tank in my condo recently died, so I had to replace it.  Now, I have an emergency fund for things such as this, but I decided I wanted to pay it with my summer…

When I Lived in Europe: Brookie’s Trip

[wysija_form id=”1″] For today, I thought I’d do a little throwback post to my very first blog entitled, **cringe** “Brittany is Taking Over Europe.”  I wrote this way back in 2006 when I lived in a little slice of paradise in Austria for my semester abroad.  You can read my other entires HERE.  Below chronicles perhaps the most dramatic trip my sister and I have ever taken.  Let’s just say…

How to Get the Most Out of a Farmers’ Market

[wysija_form id=”1″] If I were to describe my perfect weekend day, it would definitely involve a farmers’ market.  Perhaps my fondest memory of living in D.C. was when my friend who is a chef came to visit, and we went to the market and then came back and made a fantastic dinner from the colorful heirloom tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, house-made pasta, and locally-grown meat. Ever since watching the Cooked documentary…

The Thank You Card is Still Relevant

[wysija_form id=”1″] I remember both loving and hating birthdays and Christmas’ as a child.  Loving them, obviously, because of the presents, special foods, and celebration.  But hating them because my mom always made me sit down at the kitchen table and write out thank you cards to everyone.  Yup, even my six-year-old peers.  Everyone.  She also made me personally call family members that I barely knew, thus making me deathly…

Summer Book List

Perhaps the #1 question I’m asked is for book recommendations..  I love talking about my latest reads and recommending books to others.  For me, summer is a time to catch up on everything life-wise, and I love to take extra time to read.  Here I’ll share some summer books that I recommend, and then I’ll share some books that I plan to read this summer.  I would love your…

10 Things That Really Aren’t That Annoying (that save space and money)

[wysija_form id=”1″] In the age of technology, many apps and websites have emerged to make our lives easier.  However, I beg the question..  Was it really that annoying to begin with? Companies will try to sell you stuff that you absolutely, positively do NOT need, and I find that to be more and more apparent every time I see any kind of advertisement.  In order to save a boat load…

Graduation Thoughts

[wysija_form id=”1″] Even though I’ve been blogging here and there since college and have been teaching since I graduated, I don’t tell my students about my blog.  I’m very cognizant of what I post in case they do ever find it, but I don’t really advertise the fact that I have one with them. Anyway, that aside, today is graduation day for my sweet seniors.  Even though last year was…

White Oak Canyon

[wysija_form id=”1″] A slightly spur-of-the-moment decision to spend Saturday of Memorial Day weekend out in the Shenandoah did not disappoint.  There was a large change of rain, so we went out there anyway, hoping for the best.  While it was more than a little humid, the rain held off, and the temperature was perfect. We left around 11 AM on Saturday.  Under normal circumstances, I would recommend getting out there…

DuCard Winery

[wysija_form id=”1″] Some days are better than others, and some days are downright fantastic.  Last Saturday, I ventured out to the Shenandoah with four of my favorite people for a hike and wine.  I never thought of myself as a “nature person,” mainly because I hate bugs and loathe being dirty.  Oh, and I don’t like being hot either.  But, since I moved to the D.C. area, I have learned…
