Top 6 Reasons to Start Christmas Shopping Now!

Hi, Friends! I’m visiting my family in Ohio this weekend and was reminded by our local news that NOW, yes, NOW is the time to start Christmas shopping.  With the temperatures (finally) dropping, apple cider heating, and pumpkin patches to be visited, consider this your friendly reminder that Christmas is closer than you might think.  Maybe you’re not the best planner.  Maybe Christmas is so far out of your mind…

Exploring Ohio Wineries- Laurentia

Humor me here.  I didn’t believe it either.  This past summer my mom and I went to check out some of the wineries in Northeast Ohio..  and guess what?  They were pretty delicious! Laurentia Winery is (check out their website-gorgeous!) located only a short drive from the (unfortunately run-down) Geneva-On-The-Lake, OH in Madison.  Unlike the wineries in Virginia that I’m accustomed to, Laurentia is clearly meant to be a 4-season…

Top 5 Things to do in San Diego

Y’all.  I have had the BEST summer, but oh my gosh, am I exhausted!  Work sent me ALL over the country for conferences and meetings, that it feels so good to be home for the next month. Even though there was a ton of travel this summer, I did relish in the opportunity to finally travel for pleasure when Jim was able to get a week off.  We went to…

Best Summer Beach Reads- Fiction

Phew!  It’s been a while since I’ve posted!  So, little life update, I started a new job!  I’ll perhaps write more about that later, but that is the reason for my blog radio silence.  I’m beautifully overwhelmed, and I am so excited about this new endeavor. I will be the first to admit that I am not as much of a fiction reader as I am a non-fiction reader.  Even…

Grey Ghost Winery

Few things I enjoy more than an afternoon in God’s country, doing a wine tasting and enjoying the beautiful scenery.  A few months ago, we ventured out to a winery I had heard of several times-Grey Ghost.  Even though I found it fun to try to convince my fellow wine tasters that it was named that because of a frequent apparition, it is in fact because of a nickname Abraham…

Virginia Diner- Worth the Drive

Hope you all had an amazing Memorial Day weekend!  We’re in the final week of school over here, and all of us are simply elated! A few weeks ago, Jim was competing in a volleyball tournament in the middle of “Peanut Country,” Virginia and I gladly went along for the ride.  There is something about being around farmland that makes me so excited and so happy. To me, it’s a…

What I Learned From My (grand)Mama

Five years ago, the matriarch of our family, my (grand)Mama (pronounced “Mumma”) and my favorite person ever left this world for the next.  She was, and continues to be, everything to me, and I still miss her immensely.  I wrote an extensive reflection on her death HERE, but I don’t want to focus on that today. To honor her memory, I have compiled a list of things I have learned…

Introducing Fried Pickle (Frickle)! Adding a Second Dog to the Pack

I lost momentum with blogging, and I’ll be the first to admit it.  For the five of who you read this that I don’t know in real life, I know you have been sitting on the edge of your seat wondering where I am in life.  Since Jesus rose (a little Easter reference for your Thursday…), things have been pretty much the same, except for one minor (major) thing. I…
