One of many things I love about blogging is that it forces me to do the crafts I’d been meaning to for a while.
This is the first year that I’ll actually be here for Easter. Under normal circumstances, I actually leave town on Easter Sunday, as that is the start of my spring break. This year my school decided to do spring break during Holy Week, so Easter Sunday and Easter Monday will be my last two days of break. Since I’ll be here, I decided I wanted to decorate this year. I never really grew up with Easter decorations because we were always away. I do have to say, though, Easter decorations in general are quite pretty and cheery, so I’m happy to have the little touches around my place.
OK, so here we go…
Gather your supplies. I got all of these at the Dollar Tree, except for the flower box, which I got at IKEA on sale for $1.99. You’ll need:
- Floral foam
- a bag of rocks
- a flower box
- brown embroidery floss
- sticks from outside
- toilet paper (yup…)
- glue gun
- scissors
OK, so the sticks were easy to find, and I’m pretty sure they came from a pine tree. Either break or saw them to the size you want.
- If you have an uneven bottom, use the toilet paper to fill in the ridges to make it as even as possible. This will help the floral foam to not pop up. (you might want to do this after you make the crosses so that you can gauge how the weight works)
2. Now make your crosses! Do a little dot of glue from your glue gun to hold them together, and then wrap your embroidery floss around it in an X shape to secure it even more. Hot glue that too after you’ve wrapped it. I used about 2 feet of embroidery floss to really ensure that it’s on there.
3. Stick the crosses in to the floral foam, and arrange the floral foam blocks in to the flower box.
4. Add the rocks…
5. Taa daaaa!!!
This looks really good as a centerpiece, or on a shelf. I love that the crosses are there because, while we’re looking ahead to Easter, it’s not Easter yet. We’re still very much in the throws of Lent. Hope this works well for you too! [wysija_form id=”1″]
